Wide Area Networking

The term Wide Area Networking, and it's more common acronym WAN, refers to the use of networking products and services to connect computers and networks that are located far apart. The goal of connecting the networks in different locations is usually to give a remote location access to resources that are located at a headquarters location. This is what is also called Branch Office Networking.

The Internet itself is a giant WAN. Everybody is familiar with the most basic Internet WAN connection: the cable or DSL connection that comes into most homes. In fact, the drive by the telephone and cable companies to get high-speed Internet into the homes of consumers directly benefits the business customer with increased levels of Internet service and performance.

Berkeley Logic works directly with LMi.net, the largest independent Internet Service Provider (ISP) in the East Bay, to design Wide Area Network (WAN) solutions, perform business-grade DSL installations, configure and test networking equipment, install network performance monitors, and provide emergency support. Using tried-and-true DSL technology, Berkeley Logic can use WANs to help a small business expand to branch locations or remote work sites.

In addition to standard DSL connectivity, LMi.net has high-speed wireless Internet service to fixed locations in Berkeley and North Oakland. At $380 per month for 7 Mb of symetrical bandwidth, the service is highly affordable for customers who need to upload large files.
